Ellmac

Ellmac's Wedge

Ellmac, the large frilled lizard, is the third boss of the game and the Guardian of the Temple of the Sun. The boss fight takes place as a frenzied mine cart ride, where you have to navigate both high and low tracks as Ellmac stands upright or attacks close to the ground.

  • Guardian Number: 03
  • Location: Temple of the Sun D-6
  • Background Music: "High-Speed Beast"
  • HP: 48

Finding Ellmac[]

Kill all the enemies in B-1 to reveal a pedestal. Put a weight on the pedestal to free the cart from the ceiling in C-1. Keep pushing the cart to the right to bring it down to D-6. In D-5, you will have to wait on the blue platform with the cart to lower it two floors.

Revealing the Ankh[]

Once the cart has arrived in D-6, kill the lone Bennu.

Finding the Ankh Jewel[]

Talk to the person in the cave in C-5. Stand under the eye in B-5 for several seconds to open the chest.

Fighting Ellmac

Attacks[]

  • Ellmac opens his mouth and fires three fireballs in your direction. The fireballs go rushing to the left once they hit the track. After he takes enough damage, he will fire four fireballs. This attack is his only vulnerable phase.
  • Ellmac backs off the left side of the screen. His head appears level with the track and he roars, causing debris to fall from the ceiling.
  • Ellmac charges if you get to close to him.

Weak Point[]

Face (only when mouth is open)

Strategies[]

  • Stand below the head and double-jump when he opens his mouth and attack, or use Flares.
  • Dodge his fireballs and when you reach the height of his head fire Shurikens. Shurikens are pretty much the only viable weapon for killing him, so it's a good idea to bring at least 60.
  • Don't worry about falling off the minecart, you can't. He is invincible when his mouth is closed and when he is doing his rock slide attack. Shuriken are pretty much the only viable weapon for killing him, so it's a good idea to bring at least 60.

After Winning[]

After defeating Ellmac, you emerge in E-6. Read the tablet in the room to open a chest containing the Bronze Mirror.

Trivia[]

Ellmac's name is a pun on the Japanese name of frill-necked lizard, "Erimaki-tokage" (エリマキトカゲ / literally scarf lizard). The name also resembles an Engrish mistranslation of the Mortal Kombat character "Ermac".
